In order to become a good guitar player, you need to listen to good guitar players. When you take lessons with me, we start by identifying bands that have amazing guitar players. You might not actually know that these guys are even good! However, if you fall in love with a singer or songwriter, you can fall in love with playing their songs. This blog serves as a guitarist’s guide to becoming a good listener.

Bill Whithers
Bill used me up and I didn’t mind one bit. I consider Bill Withers the most influential musician in my life. He averages the top of everything - great songwriter, great singer, great guitar player, funky, soulful, and humble. Bill was a marginal guitar player but an amazing guitar writer and performer. You don’t have to be amazing to sound amazing. If you want a good place to start, let’s start at “Aint No Sunshine.”
